This is a lab I have in development for introducing students to buffers. This is the first lab that we do on acid base equilibrium. My motivation for writing this lab was an observation that many of my students seemed to have trouble internalizing fundamental ideas about what a buffer is, how a buffer responds to various challenges, and the predictive power of equilibrium calculations for buffers. I have not formally measured improvements in student learning with this lab. My own observations have been very encouraging.
Introduction to buffers – Laboratory
s discussion will focus on understanding tactics for carrier gas conservation, including what hardware and strategies are available for conservation. Alternative carrier gas options will be explored, as well as how the transition to an alternative carrier gas will affect your analysis and chromatography.
